The lower the exhaust temperature of the waste heat boiler is, the more the heating surface of the boiler is arranged, and the greater the residual heat of the flue gas is recovered. However, the investment of boilers and other systems will increase with the addition of the heating area. The residual heat source contains acid gas such as SO2 and water vapor, so there is acid dew point temperature.

When the temperature is lower than the acid dew point temperature, the heating surface of the tail flue will be severely corroded, and the inlet air temperature of the waste heat boiler is also relatively low, so the heat transfer temperature difference of the waste heat boiler is relatively small. The selection of the minimum heat transfer temperature difference determines not only the cost of the waste heat boiler, but also the parameters of the main steam.

At present, the waste heat boiler in foreign countries mostly adopts horizontal arrangement, while there are two kinds of arrangement in China. The vertical arrangement has the advantages of small floor area, convenient dust collection, uniform flue gas flow and high heat transfer coefficient, but the ash accumulation and ash removal are worse than the horizontal type, the phenomenon of bridge between the tube bundles is easy to appear, and the steel consumption is relatively large. Therefore, the boiler layout should be selected after considering the foundation of installation conditions.
